Cochlear Implant

The audiological criteria for a cochlear implant has greatly expanded in recent years. More people are now able to take part in this medical miracle. Many times, damage to the inner ear and/or auditory nerve cause unsuccessful use with hearing aids alone. With a cochlear implant, the damaged hair cells are bypassed, and the auditory nerve is directly stimulated . The cochlear implant does not result in “restored” or “cured” hearing. It does, however, allow for the perception of of sound.
